Victorian Home Located On The Fundy Trail
Nestled in the beautiful village of Penobsquis, situated at the foot of the World Famous Fundy Trail, and just seven miles from Sussex New Brunswick, stands this Victorian home. The house rests on 4 acres of property. Built in the 1860’s, the home has been fully restored back to its grandeur. There are fourteen rooms total, consisting of five bedrooms, large kitchen, one and a half baths, laundry room, large parlor or dining room with sculptured plaster ceiling, small parlor with built in pantry or china cabinet with French door, large front foyer, family room with Tin Plate Ceiling, with an adjoining room which we use as our bar, this room could also serve as another small bedroom. The master bedroom is 24’x 15’ and has a two person, whirlpool bath. It exits out to a large upper deck, which looks out onto the backfields and rolling hills. Great for morning coffee.
The front porch is the length of the house at 51’X 9’ and has ceramic tile floor and pine tongue and groove walls. The front of the porch is lined with windows. The home is adorned with fine antiques and selected Antiques will also be for sale throughout the house at negotiable prices.
The electrical and the plumbing have been fully upgraded. Insulation is blown in. The heat, hot water and stove are supplied through, propane. The house is sided in white vinyl. The foundation of the house is solid.
There are two wells. One is used for the house and one for the vegetable garden (60x30) and the above ground pool, which will also be sold with the house. There is a heated car garage with a storage area upstairs 18.3 X 23.3 and another building which is a heated and insulated workshop16.3 X 16.3.
The front grounds are adorned with beautifully manicured hedges at the entrance of the driveway, a water fountain, rock garden, apple trees, crab-apple trees, plum trees, cherry tree, raspberry & rhubarb patch, and several rose bushes. There is a very large vegetable garden as mentioned above. The fields behind the house are actually 2 surveyed lots and are perfect for either horses or cattle or could simply be sold off.
The school bus stops at the end of the driveway. A children’s play park is just across the street, along with a skating rink. The community hall is just down the street a short country stroll. A two-minute walk from the house will bring you to a lovely fishing area. Hunting is also plentiful throughout this area. Snowmobiling & cross-country skiing are also favorite pastimes throughout the fields and wooded trails.
The house has been a Registered “Bed and Breakfast” through Canada Select. As mentioned before, this house is located at the foot of the Fundy Trail. The Fundy National Park & Trail receives thousands of visitors from all around the world from early May till late October. Other area attractions are the "Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival",
Which brings balloonist, and visitor’s from around the world here every September. The balloons fly right over this house and land either in our field or neighboring fields depending on wind direction, so far, they have landed here every year without fail. They are quit an amazing site. The “Annual Weekend Flea Market”, is held in Sussex in August. Last year it brought over 35,000 visitors to the Sussex area. Sussex and the surrounding areas are also known for their World Famous Covered Bridges. In the winter months the Poley Mountain Ski Resort is just a 20-minute drive.
Sussex is situated between the three major cities in New Brunswick. Saint John, 45 minutes, Moncton 40 minutes, and the capital city, Fredericton 1 ½ hour drive. We are 1 hour to the border of Nova Scotia and 1½ hour from the now famous Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island. We are also 1 hour and 45 minutes from the U.S. border at Calais Maine.
