Kinaskan Lake, British Columbia
This is one of the most beautiful and picturesque spots of wilderness in all of the Province of British Columbia and was preempted (homesteaded) about 50 years ago by Steele and Lucy Hyland, who at the time were the factors in charge of the Hudson Bay Store in Telegraph Creek. It was to be their Home and Lodge site and at the time was at the end of the southbound Cassiar Highway. It offers fabulous scenery, relaxation, fishing, photography, solitude and privacy, yet is accessible by a 1 1/2 mile skiff trip across the south end of the lake from an excellent paved highway along the east shore. Terrace is about 270 miles south and Watson Lake is about 270 miles north from the Provincial Park and boat launch on the south end of Kinaskan Lake. Wrangell and Ketchikan are both about 130 miles by floatplane and a very beautiful flight. Skiffs have been seasonally available as is hunting guide service from the same location. Again, the fly fishing for Rainbow trout is just next to unbelievable.
It is property that is accessible from Highway 37 north about 250 miles from the junction of Highway 16 at the small town of Ketwanga. The road is paved the full distance to beautiful Kinaskan Lake where this is located.
There is a very nice Motor Home and camping facility at the south end of the lake with a boat launch and ramp. The property is about a mile across the lake at the outlet of the Iskut River, 26 acres on the west side which comprises Lot # 6545 and Lot # 6546, 18 acres on the east side of that outlet. One full mile of beautiful lake frontage is included in the shoreline of the two lots. Consequently bring your own water transportation in case there be none available at the ramp.
You may also travel to the property by way of the Alaska State Ferry System which travels from Ketchikan to Hyder then up about 40 miles of fantastic driving to the Meziadin Junction on Highway 37, paved road also. Access may also be accomplished from Prince Rupert, another terminal of the Alaska State Ferry System from Ketchikan, Alaska.
Canada's Kinaskan, this lake in unpolluted. It is 14 miles long with the Iskut River entering the north end and exiting the south end. The Iskut is a beautiful turbulent wild river with no habitation from Kinaskan Lake to it's confluence with the Stikine at the Canadian border about 30 miles north of Wrangell, Alaska. It is not a floatable river as there is a 90 foot cataract 5 miles below Kinaskan.

Trail, British Columbia
394 Columbia Gardens Road
165 Acres of Rural Land with Large Home and Shop
Columbia Gardens is West Kootenays, nature lover’s paradise.
This is a very picturesque 165-acre property in a North- South valley consisting of several level benches, treed with tamarack, birch, white pine, cedar, maple, hazelnut, and many varieties of shrubs decorating the hillside, and thus a real variety of birds, including owls.
It is not uncommon to see deer walking across the meadow, or an elk just outside of the bedroom window. Frequently while on a leisurely stroll we encounter black bears along the pathway ahead of us or up a tree. Raccoons, badgers, rabbits, coyotes, squirrels and chipmunks are plentiful and the occasional cougar has been spotted in the area.
As you leave the main road onto the land, up a winding driveway, to a house that is barely visible to the public, you will see a long flat meadow on your right, surrounded by trees. On your left a road veers off and winds thru trees to an upper level, moderately to heavily forested, somewhere along the road you will encounter a mountain brook flowing down into the valley. This is a good spot for a fishpond, and also where the domestic water supply is obtained, and by gravity, fed to the buildings and garden. From the upper bench you will have a spectacular, 180-degree view of the Columbia Gardens valley, all the way from the South [WANETA-Canadian / USA boarder crossing which is five miles away] to the North where the Columbia River flows and the city of Trail is located.
The natural outdoors provides a real inner healing from everyday stress.
The house was built in 1988 and is very livable, but could use renovation. It is located on a plateau above the meadow and measures 54x24 ft with a 16x28ft Sun porch on the North side, which also serves as a carport underneath.
The house has three levels, full basement, main floor and attic. It has a metal roof that sheds snow very nicely. The kitchen, dining room and living room are in an open U shaped fashion. Two bedrooms, office, 1 ½ baths and laundry room are on the main floor. The basement has a furnace room, large family room, bath& hot tub room, one bedroom and a storage room. The attic is unfinished, but could be finished to anyone’s liking.
A split-level entrance gives access to all three levels.
There is a large yard, lawn and garden area surrounding the house.
The shop is a stones throw from the house, and measures 54x48ft, and has two levels. The shop level has a 14ft. ceiling, large door openings and a grease pit on one side and on the other side is a storage area or animal shelter and hayloft.
The upper floor has a ground level entrance at the back and has a large open centre area with nine individual rooms surrounding it. This is easily converted into a rooming house, hobby area, storage or school.
In the yard centrally located is a gashouse, with three 200gal. fuel tanks, diesel, gas and farm gas.
This place is ideal for a large family, group outings, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, camping, horseback riding or trailer park, community living? Whatever you desire.
There are three ski hills, a hot spring; two gulf courses, & hockey arena [this is the home of the Trail Smoke eaters]. Recreation and sport facilities are plentiful.
Weather in this area is gentle and mild and the neighborhood is very friendly.
Proximity to shopping- it’s 7miles to Trail 7 miles to Fruitvale and less than 5 miles to the Waneta Plaza.
The school bus comes to the corner of the property for both elementary & high school students.
Major centres- 7 miles to Trail
25 miles to Castlegar
40 miles to Nelson
2 hours drive from Spokane Wa.
4 hours drive from the Okanogan Valley.
aprox. A 9-hour drive to either Vancouver or Calgary.
